Juan Bezerra Transfers from Zamalek to Shabab Al-Ahli

Juan Alvina Bezerra’s Zamalek chapter is over almost as quickly as it began. One season, one league title, and now a ticket to Dubai.

Zamalek’s board, headed by Hussein Labib, announced on Saturday that the club has reached a final agreement for the Brazilian’s transfer to Shabab Al-Ahli Dubai in the UAE, confirming the end of his stay at the “White Castle”.

The decision had been coming. Bezerra skipped Zamalek’s pre-season preparations and stayed away from early matches, making it clear he wanted out during the current summer transfer window. That stance immediately strained his position at the club just as the new campaign was starting to take shape.

He returned to Cairo last Saturday, rejoining the environment he had stepped away from, but his mind was already elsewhere. He pushed for a fresh challenge, and negotiations with Shabab Al-Ahli quickly gathered pace in recent days as both clubs edged towards common ground.

Zamalek granted him permission to travel to the UAE to undergo his medical, a clear sign that the deal had moved into its final stages. The green light for the trip effectively opened the door, and the club’s confirmation on Saturday closed it behind him.

In an official statement, Zamalek said: “The board of Zamalek, chaired by Hussein Labib, announces that an agreement has been reached regarding the transfer of Brazilian Juan Bezerra to Shabab Al-Ahli Dubai of the UAE, after the requirements set by Zamalek at the start of the negotiations in the summer transfer window this year were met.”

Bezerra’s impact on the pitch in his lone season was undeniable. He featured in 44 matches across all competitions, scored 8 goals and supplied 12 assists, often driving Zamalek’s attacks and producing standout performances in key moments. His contributions helped carry the team through several tournaments and played a part in securing the Egyptian Premier League title, his first and only trophy in the famous White shirt.

Then it stopped. Not through injury or form, but by his own request. A promising spell cut short by a desire to move on.

Shabab Al-Ahli chose a more poetic touch in their own announcement, posting: “They searched for the date of the announcement.. Dubai is the destination”.

For Bezerra, that destination now marks the next test of whether one strong season in Cairo was just the beginning, or the peak, of his rise.
