Fabrizio Romano Sees Jules Kounde as a Clever Transfer for Arsenal

Jules Kounde has been highlighted as a smart choice for Arsenal while they seek reinforcement in central defense, according to football journalist Fabrizio Romano. With William Saliba sidelined due to a serious injury for a significant portion of the season, the Gunners appear to be exploring options to strengthen their backline.

Behind the Scenes Moves

Romano mentioned that Arsenal is actively working behind the scenes to bring in a new centre-back. Although no firm deal involving Kounde has been confirmed, there’s growing speculation about the defender’s potential move.

On his YouTube channel, Romano shared his thoughts on why Kounde could be a valuable addition:

“Arsenal are working behind the scenes on a new centre-back. Tottenham are not selling Romero to Arsenal. I told you, this is why Romero is close to Atletico Madrid. Arsenal are still looking for a centre-back on the market. Kounde, in my personal opinion, would be a smart solution because he can be a right-back, he can be a centre-back. So, would be a good solution for Arsenal who probably need to cover both positions in terms of players, but we will see how many they will add. Maybe it’s going to be just one, but at the moment from both sides they are not confirming any advanced negotiations for Jules Kounde to Arsenal. Should anything change, I will let you know.”

Transfer Speculation and Arsenal's Needs

While it appears no concrete negotiations are underway, Romano's comments suggest Arsenal might quietly be considering this option. Given his usual caution with speculation, such remarks could signal the start of an unfolding transfer story.

Kounde's versatility to play both centre-back and right-back fits well with Mikel Arteta's requirements, especially when key defenders like Saliba and Jurrien Timber are unavailable.

Current Transfer Market Context

  • Tottenham have ruled out selling Romero to Arsenal, with the player now close to joining Atletico Madrid.
  • Arsenal continues to scan the market for defensive reinforcements but hasn’t confirmed any particular signing.

What’s Next?

The situation remains fluid, and it’s worth watching how talks evolve. If Arsenal do push for Kounde, it would bring experience and flexibility to their defense, which they currently need badly.
