Juventus Secure Pape Matar Sarr on Loan from Tottenham
Juventus have struck a deal with Tottenham Hotspur to bring in midfielder Pape Matar Sarr, with the Italian club moving decisively late in the window for a player they see as a perfect tactical fit.
The agreement, reported by Fabrizio Romano, is structured as an initial loan with an option to buy, in a package worth up to €30 million. That option will not stay optional for long if things go to plan in Turin: it becomes an obligation if performance-related conditions are hit, including Juventus qualifying for the Champions League and Sarr reaching specific appearance targets over the season.
Juventus find their midfielder
Juventus had been searching for a dynamic presence in the middle of the pitch. Several other targets slipped away. The focus then turned sharply to Sarr, whose high-energy, box-to-box game and ball-winning edge ticked the remaining boxes for the Bianconeri.
Once they moved, they moved fast. While Monaco were widely viewed as frontrunners for the 23-year-old, Sarr quickly reached personal terms with Juventus, clearing a major hurdle and tilting the race decisively in the Italians’ favour.
The move also follows a clear desire from the player’s side. Talks between the clubs accelerated after Sarr asked for a new challenge away from North London, where the landscape around him had shifted.
De Zerbi’s reshuffle and Spurs’ midfield squeeze
At Tottenham, Roberto De Zerbi’s arrival and the club’s midfield business changed Sarr’s prospects. With moves for Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali adding fresh competition, minutes suddenly looked harder to come by.
Tottenham’s decision to sanction the deal reflects that reality. Letting Sarr go trims a crowded midfield group and, if the clauses are triggered, delivers a sizeable fee that can be recycled into other areas of the squad.
Sarr leaves Spurs having made over 100 competitive appearances since arriving from FC Metz in 2021, a steady presence through managerial changes and tactical overhauls. Now, he steps into a Juventus side that has been crying out for exactly his profile.
With the agreement in place, Sarr has been cleared to travel to Turin for his medical and to sign his contract ahead of the deadline.
Spurs turn to attack
Tottenham’s work does not stop with Sarr’s exit. The club are braced for a frantic finish to the window and remain active in the market for another attacker.
Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye has emerged as the leading candidate, but Spurs are not alone in that chase. Arsenal and Manchester City are also in the frame, setting up a late-window battle that could shape the attacking options of three major Premier League contenders.
