Juventus Signs Guglielmo Vicario as New Goalkeeper

Juventus have their new No. 1 – or at least the man they hope will become it.

The Turin club confirmed on Tuesday the arrival of Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario from Tottenham, a deal designed to anchor their next cycle between the posts. Vicario joins on loan until 30 June 2027, a long runway for a player they clearly expect to grow into the shirt.

The move caps a sharp rise for the 29-year-old. Born in 1996 and raised in the Udinese academy, he had to climb the ladder the hard way: Venezia, Perugia, Cagliari, then Empoli. It was at Empoli that he truly announced himself, amassing 69 Serie A appearances and building a reputation as one of the most reliable shot-stoppers in the league.

Tottenham came calling in 2023. In London, Vicario didn’t just fill a gap; he became a mainstay. He played 117 matches for Spurs and was part of the side that lifted the Europa League in the 2024/25 season, the first major European trophy of his career and a line that now stands out on his CV as he lands back in Italy.

Juventus secured him on loan with an option to buy set at 10 million euros, bonuses included.

For a club juggling financial caution with the need to stay competitive at the top of Serie A and in Europe, it is a calculated, flexible move.

The story, though, carries a twist. Vicario was not the first name on Juventus’ shortlist. The club had reportedly pushed for Argentina’s Emiliano Martinez and also explored a deal for Zion Suzuki before turning to the former Empoli keeper. The pursuit dragged, the options narrowed, and the Italian emerged as the solution.

Now he arrives in Turin with something to prove: that he is more than the fallback option, that the keeper who conquered London nights in Europe can command the Allianz Stadium with the same authority.
