Leeds United Close in on Melvin Bard Transfer

Leeds United are closing in on a deadline-day move for Nice left-back Melvin Bard, as Daniel Farke scrambles to strengthen a thin back line and reshape his attack before the window slams shut.

The Championship club are set to bring in the 25-year-old on an initial loan, with an option to buy at the end of the season. Leeds will pay Nice an upfront fee of one million euros, with a further five million euros required if they choose to make the deal permanent next summer.

Bard is travelling to Elland Road on deadline day to undergo his medical, with Leeds pushing to get the paperwork done in time. If it goes through, Farke finally gets what he has been short of for months: genuine competition on the left side of defence.

Right now, Gabriel Gudmundsson is the only natural left-sided full-back available to the Leeds manager. That lack of depth has loomed over the early part of the season, forcing tactical compromises and limiting rotation. Bard’s arrival would ease that strain and give Farke more flexibility in how he sets up his back four.

While the defence looks set for reinforcement, the forward line is braced for a significant change.

Willy Gnonto is in Florence completing a move to Fiorentina, a switch that takes the Italian back to Serie A. The deal, initially a loan, depended on Leeds lining up a replacement in attack. They tried. They thought they had one.

Leeds moved for Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk as they searched for a high-impact wide option, only to see Tottenham step in and hijack the move. That late twist has left Leeds juggling priorities on deadline day: secure Bard, reassess their attacking targets, and absorb the loss of Gnonto.

Defensive cover appears to be on the way. The bigger question now is whether Leeds can find enough firepower to match it.
