Robert Lewandowski Praises Barcelona’s Rodri Signing and Reflects on Emotional Camp Nou Farewell

Robert Lewandowski, the former Barcelona striker now with Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer, has expressed strong support for Barcelona's signing of Spanish midfielder Rodri from Manchester City. Lewandowski believes Rodri will bring much-needed experience and leadership to Hansi Flick's squad following his own departure.

Filling the Leadership Gap

Having left Camp Nou after a successful four-year spell, Lewandowski understands the void left behind in the locker room. To address this, coach Hansi Flick prioritized bringing Rodri to Catalonia, seeing him as the perfect candidate to take on greater responsibility in midfield.

“He’s a player who knows what the team needs, how to play going forward, but also how to contribute a little more in defence,” Lewandowski told Radio Marca. “He’s the kind of experienced player I think this team needs. He’s been performing at the highest level not just at the World Cup, but for many years now.”

Looking Back on Four Memorable Years

Lewandowski arrived at Barcelona in 2022 from Bayern Munich and enjoyed a fruitful four seasons, winning three La Liga titles and securing the prestigious Pichichi trophy. Despite his success, he sought a fresh challenge and moved to MLS.

“It was a very special four years for me in Barcelona,” he said. “But there comes a time when you have to try something different and take a new step, and I’m very happy now.”

Adjusting to Life in the United States

The transition from Europe to the U.S. has required patience and adjustment for the Polish striker. Moving to Chicago represents a big cultural and sporting change.

“It’s normal [to need time], not only because I’m leaving Europe, but also because I’m moving to the United States,” Lewandowski explained.

Keeping an Eye on Barcelona’s Progress

Though focused on his new team, Lewandowski remains connected to Barcelona and supports the club and his former teammates.

“I’m not a very emotional person, I’m more cold-hearted, but this is a moment when I’ll always be there to support and help FC Barcelona and my former team-mates,” he said. “I’m watching what’s happening now and I’m sure they’re going to win a lot of games.”

Barcelona hopes Rodri’s integration will strengthen their squad and continue their domestic success.
