Liam Delap's Chelsea Future: Como's Interest Grows

Liam Delap’s Chelsea future is back under the spotlight, with Como moving to test the waters for the out-of-favour striker.

Italian football insider Fabrizio Romano reports that the Serie A newcomers have made an initial approach for Delap, who endured a bruising first season at Stamford Bridge and now looks a prime candidate to leave before the window closes.

Como return to raid Chelsea

Como have already dipped into Chelsea’s squad this summer, sealing a deal for Trevoh Chalobah as they continue an ambitious rebuild under Cesc Fabregas. Now they are circling again.

Romano claims Delap is “high on the shortlist” for Fabregas and his recruitment team as they search urgently for a centre-forward. With roughly two weeks left in the market, the clock is ticking for the Italian club to land a striker capable of leading their line in Serie A.

Permanent exit or loan puzzle

The early signs point towards a permanent transfer being discussed, with no clear indication yet that a straight loan is on the table. Any temporary move would eat into Chelsea’s limited foreign loan slots, a factor the club have to weigh carefully.

At the same time, Delap still has several years left on his contract, which naturally keeps the loan option alive if no suitable permanent offer materialises. For Chelsea, this is a balancing act: protect value, but also find a club willing to take on a player whose reputation is at its lowest ebb.

For Como, it is an opportunity. For Delap, it feels like a crossroads.
