Seven days. That’s all it has taken for the mood around Paris Saint-Germain to shift from intrigue to mild concern. They go again on the road, this time heading north to Lille, knowing they can’t afford another stutter.

Luis Enrique’s side escaped with a point against Stade Rennais last Friday, dragged back into the game by a second-half brace from Ferran Torres. PSG’s pre-season was short, again, and the rust showed. The opposition didn’t make it easy either, and Lille promise no respite. Another contender for the Champions League spots, another hostile away ground, another early-season stress test.

PSG travel without Ousmane Dembélé, a significant absence in the final third. Yet Lille have their own headache. Matias Fernandez-Pardo won’t feature while his transfer saga rumbles on. He’s a major miss. Ayoubb Bouaddi has already departed, a loss that was expected and, internally at least, already processed.

Even so, there was plenty to like about Lille on the opening weekend. Under Davide Ancelotti, they eased past SCO Angers 2-0 without ever needing to hit top gear. That was a gentle introduction. This is something else entirely.

Ancelotti Jr. is stepping into the spotlight now. Unproven at this level, he faces the biggest test of his young coaching career against a wounded PSG looking to accelerate into the season.

Both Luke and Bastien see the same outcome: Lille 1-2 PSG. Different reasoning, same scoreboard.
