“We have a valid contract and we are committed to it with Liverpool, and if the club does not offer to renew the contract, that is their right. At the moment, Alexis must give his best for the club in every game during the weekend.
“Alexis is not disappointed. This is a decision made by the club, and we do not judge their decisions, we just prepare for what is to come.”
The message is firm and measured. Liverpool hold a long-term deal, they are under no pressure, and the player’s camp is not kicking up a fuss. The onus, as his father makes clear, is on Alexis to keep performing.
Real Madrid rumours shut down
When Mac Allister struggled, the rumour mill spun quickly. His dip in form coincided with speculation about his future, with his name thrown in alongside a string of European giants. Real Madrid, inevitably, were painted as the glamorous escape route.
