Liverpool Prepares Bid for PSG Winger Ibrahim Mbaye as Squad Needs Grow
Liverpool’s quiet summer may finally be about to crackle into life, with the club expected to lodge an opening offer for Paris Saint-Germain winger Ibrahim Mbaye in the coming days.
Andoni Iraola has walked into a dressing room stripped of depth and star power. So far, the new manager has only seen one fresh attacking face arrive, with winger Victor Munoz through the door, while defender Jeremy Jacquet has joined after a deal was agreed back in January. That’s been it.
Salah, Robertson, Konate gone – and more could follow
The 20-time English champions are staring at a razor-thin squad. Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate have all departed on free transfers, ripping out three pillars from three different lines of the team.
Several others are heavily linked with exits before the 1 September deadline. Each rumour tightens the pressure on the recruitment team and on owners FSG, who now face a sprint to arm Iraola with something resembling a title-chasing group.
PSG negotiations: Barcola too expensive, Mbaye next in line
Liverpool’s primary target for the remainder of the window is understood to be PSG’s Bradley Barcola. The France international has already agreed to make the move to Anfield, but the European champions’ eye-watering £145 million asking price has brought talks to a standstill.
So the focus has widened across the same dressing room.
Liverpool are also pushing for Ibrahim Mbaye, with fresh reports suggesting an opening bid is imminent. According to L’Equipe journalist Loic Tanzi, the Reds are expected to make their first formal offer for the Senegal winger in the coming days.
Sources cited by GIVEMESPORT indicate Mbaye would be open to the move. PSG, though, are demanding a substantial fee despite his relative inexperience, aware that more than one major club is circling.
Mbaye wants minutes – and he has options
For Mbaye, the situation is clear. He wants regular first-team football and does not see that path in Paris. The route out is open: PSG are willing to let him leave, and the player himself is pushing for a move.
Liverpool are not alone in the chase. Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen are also keen on the 21-year-old’s signature, adding a layer of urgency to Liverpool’s negotiations. Wait too long, and the winger could slip away to Germany.
PSG, for their part, have already started reshaping their attack. Spain international Ferran Torres has arrived from Barcelona, weeks after scoring the winning goal in the World Cup final. A deal has also been agreed with Ajax for Mika Godts to join the French giants.
With fresh attacking talent secured, Mbaye has been nudged closer to the exit.
Liverpool’s attack looks light
The timing for Liverpool could not be more critical. The Premier League season is less than a week away, and Iraola’s options in the final third look thin for a club with ambitions of competing on multiple fronts.
Up front, Alexander Isak stands as the lone recognised number nine. Behind him, Cody Gakpo, Rio Ngumoha, Florian Wirtz, Munoz and Harvey Elliott can operate across the attacking midfield and wide roles.
It’s a talented group, but not a deep one. Not for a team that expects to chase titles at home and in Europe.
A deal there to be done – if FSG move
The pieces are aligned. PSG are prepared to sell. Mbaye wants out for more minutes. Liverpool need bodies, and specifically a winger who can stretch games and add another threat around Isak.
The market has presented a clear opportunity. Now it comes down to FSG.
