Liverpool Close In on Bradley Barcola Transfer
Liverpool are closing in on Bradley Barcola after reaching an outline agreement with Paris Saint-Germain for the winger in a deal worth up to £120 million.
The 23-year-old has been Liverpool’s priority target this summer as the club move to fill the enormous void left by Mo Salah, who departed for Trabzonspor on a free transfer earlier this month. Salah’s goals, creativity and reliability have underpinned Liverpool’s attack for years; replacing that output was never going to be cheap, and this move underlines just how aggressively the club intend to do it.
Barcola price drops as Liverpool pounce
PSG had initially set a huge £145m asking price for Barcola, but the stance in Paris has softened. According to The Times, the two clubs have now “struck an outline agreement” for a guaranteed £100m fee, with a further £20m tied to performance-related add-ons.
Negotiations had dragged, with Liverpool refusing to meet PSG’s original valuation. The deadlock finally eased overnight, with reports of a “breakthrough” between the clubs. The agreement still needs to be finalised and signed off, but the framework is in place for one of the biggest transfers of the window.
Barcola has two years remaining on his current PSG contract but has been pushing for a move. His route to regular minutes in Paris has narrowed: Desire Doue and Kvicha Kvaratskhelia sit ahead of him in the pecking order, while Ferran Torres, Maghnes Akliouche and Mika Godts have all arrived in recent months to crowd the attacking positions further. For a player in his early twenties, watching from the bench was never going to be an acceptable long-term plan.
Liverpool’s new heavyweight signing
If completed on the terms reported, the deal will make Barcola the second-most expensive signing in Liverpool’s history. Only Alexander Isak, who joined from Newcastle United for £125m last year, would sit above him in the club’s spending table.
It would also put Barcola level with Florian Wirtz in guaranteed fee. The German playmaker cost Liverpool £100m from Bayer Leverkusen, with an additional £16m in add-ons linked to the club winning either the Premier League or the UEFA Champions League.
Liverpool, then, are not just tweaking around the edges of their squad. They are rebuilding their forward line with major, statement transfers. Barcola, if and when he walks through the doors at Anfield, will arrive not as a prospect to be eased in, but as a central figure in the club’s next attacking era.
The question now is simple: can he live with the weight of replacing Salah on the wing and a nine-figure fee on his shoulders?
