Liverpool Near Record Transfer for Bradley Barcola
Liverpool are closing in on a blockbuster move for Bradley Barcola, with Paris Saint-Germain finally edging towards agreement on a fee that would send the winger to the Premier League.
Reports in France, led by Loïc Tanzi of L’Equipe, state that the France international is “expected to become the biggest transfer of a Ligue 1 player to a foreign club”. That’s the scale of what Liverpool are trying to pull off – a record-breaking raid on PSG for one of their crown jewels.
PSG hold firm – but the price is dropping
This has been a long, drawn-out saga, and PSG have not made it easy. The French champions are still holding to a €140m (£119.7m) valuation in the latest round of talks, with Tanzi reporting that, as of the last few hours, Paris remain “firm” on that figure and see “one more week” of negotiations ahead.
That stance, though, already represents a significant climbdown. At the peak of discussions, Barcola’s price was understood to be closer to €170m (£145.3m). The gap has narrowed. The deal feels closer.
PSG’s updated valuation now sits much nearer to the benchmark they have been eyeing: the fees paid by Manchester City and Chelsea for Elliot Anderson (£116m) and Morgan Rogers (£117m). Those transfers have helped set the market, and PSG clearly want Barcola to be bracketed in the same financial category.
Liverpool, for their part, are understood to be in the hunt for at least two attacking signings this window, with the 23-year-old high on their list. There is even scope for a third offensive arrival if the numbers can be made to work.
Barcola and his camp are now thought to be increasingly confident that a deal with Andoni Iraola’s side will get over the line. After months of noise and posturing, the endgame is finally in sight.
A frantic week for Liverpool’s recruitment team
Time, though, is brutally tight.
Liverpool have roughly seven days to execute what looks like a three-player attacking rebuild. Alongside Barcola, recent reporting indicates the club are closing in on a deal for Yankuba Minteh after lodging a third bid. Two wide forwards, both young, both explosive. The kind of profile that can reshape a front line for years.
That still leaves the question of the “third man”. The expectation around the club is that the final attacking signing would be a centre-forward, giving Iraola a fully stocked forward unit to attack the 2026/27 campaign.
If Liverpool land all three, the front line will look stacked. Dangerous. Varied. But the rest of the squad tells a different story.
Gaps that won’t go away
Even with Barcola and Minteh potentially on the way, concerns remain inside and outside the club about depth in central midfield and at right-back.
Iraola is said to be convinced he can patch up Liverpool’s midfield with the players already at his disposal, trusting structure and intensity to cover what many still see as a glaring weakness. It’s a bold stance in a league that ruthlessly exposes soft centres.
Right-back is even more precarious. Jeremie Frimpong stands as the only established senior option in that role, leaving Liverpool one injury or suspension away from a serious problem on that flank. For a side with ambitions of challenging on multiple fronts, that is a thin margin.
Whatever happens with Barcola, Minteh, and any late move for a striker, the reality is stark: Liverpool look likely to go into at least the first half of the 2026/27 season short in key areas.
They may yet land a record-breaking winger. The question is whether that will be enough to carry a squad still walking a tightrope elsewhere.
