Liverpool Seal £34m Victor Munoz Signing as Newcastle Miss Out on Spain Star

Liverpool have completed the signing of Spain international forward Victor Munoz from Osasuna, edging out Newcastle United in the race for the winger. The Reds activated the £34 million ($45 million) release clause in his contract to finalize the transfer.

Reds Move Quickly to Land Winger

The club wasted no time, triggering Munoz’s release clause to avoid a bidding war. Newcastle had been pursuing the 22-year-old, but Liverpool’s decisive approach secured the deal before other clubs could intervene.

Currently representing Spain at the World Cup, Munoz completed his medical in Tennessee, USA, and signed a long-term contract with Liverpool. Although the transfer awaits work permit approval and international clearance, the player has already committed to the Merseyside side.

Newcastle Left Empty-Handed

For Newcastle, this was a disappointing setback. They had made Munoz a priority after selling Anthony Gordon to Barcelona. Negotiations were underway, but Liverpool’s readiness to meet the full release fee instantly ended any chance of competition.

This direct method avoided drawn-out talks between clubs, allowing Liverpool to focus on personal terms swiftly. Now Newcastle must explore other options to strengthen their squad this summer.

First Signing Under Iraola

Munoz becomes the first player signed since Andoni Iraola took charge as head coach. The manager values Munoz’s tactical versatility and work ethic, qualities he believes fit well with his high-intensity style planned for Anfield.

At 22, Munoz has two caps for Spain and scored on his debut against Serbia in March. His breakthrough season at Osasuna saw him score seven goals and provide five assists in 34 matches, convincing Liverpool he is ready for the Premier League challenge. Having trained in both Barcelona and Real Madrid youth systems, he brings top-level technical skill.

Preparing for World Cup Challenge

Technically, Munoz is Liverpool’s second confirmed senior signing ahead of the new season, following defender Jeremy Jacquet earlier this year. He now focuses on Spain’s upcoming World Cup group match versus Saudi Arabia in Atlanta after a surprising goalless draw by Cape Verde.
