Liverpool Reject £30m Bid for Trey Nyoni as Iraola Supports His Development

Liverpool have drawn a firm line in the final days of the window, rejecting a £30million offer from Nottingham Forest for midfielder Trey Nyoni.

Forest’s proposal was structured at £25m guaranteed with a further £5m in add-ons, a sizeable move for a 19-year-old with only 21 senior appearances. Liverpool’s response was blunt: Nyoni is not for sale before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

This is not a casual stance. It is part of a wider plan.

When Liverpool sanctioned Curtis Jones’ £30m move to Inter earlier this month, they chose not to bring in a like-for-like replacement. Internally, the message was clear — the club believe Nyoni is ready to take on a far greater role this season.

New head coach Andoni Iraola has been convinced by what he has seen. Nyoni impressed throughout pre-season, both in matches and in training, where he has been tested daily against Liverpool’s established first-team players.

“I’m very happy with Trey,” Iraola said before the campaign kicked off. “He has been very good in pre-season, not only in the games, even when he trains with us he’s facing top-level players and he’s at the level. I have no doubts with Trey. He will be very valuable this season for us, hopefully plays a lot and gives the level that I’m seeing every day in training.”

The pressure from Forest arrived just as Nyoni’s stock visibly rose. He caught the eye off the bench in Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Forest at Anfield, injecting energy and composure into midfield and underlining why Liverpool see him as part of their immediate future rather than a saleable asset.

Nyoni joined Liverpool from Leicester City’s academy three years ago and has been carefully developed. He signed a new long-term contract last summer and, with his progress accelerating over the past 12 months, further talks over an extension are expected.

Forest’s bid underlined how quickly his reputation has grown. Liverpool’s refusal underlined something else: this season, they are backing Trey Nyoni to grow with them, not away from them.
