Liverpool Sign Djylian N’Guessan for 2027
Liverpool have moved for the future again – and this time the bet is on an 18-year-old from Saint-Etienne.
Fabrizio Romano has delivered his trademark “here we go”, confirming that Liverpool have struck a deal to sign Djylian N’Guessan from AS Saint-Etienne, with the French forward set to arrive at Anfield in the summer of 2027.
Liverpool lock in N’Guessan for 2027
The move comes in the final stretch of the window, with Liverpool already closing in on Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain after the winger completed his medical on Sunday.
N’Guessan, who can operate out wide or through the middle, has been on the market. Foot Mercato’s Santi Aouna first revealed that talks between Saint-Etienne and Liverpool had reached an advanced stage, noting that the Ligue 2 club had effectively opened the door for their teenage star despite his contract running until 2027.
Aouna reported that N’Guessan is viewed inside Liverpool as a major prospect, with only “a few hours” left to finalise the agreement. Romano then backed that up and pushed it over the line.
“Liverpool agree deal to sign Djylian N’Guessan from Saint Etienne, here we go!” Romano posted on X, adding that the 18-year-old will join in summer 2027, with the player’s side also fully sorted and Liverpool already granted authorization for a medical. He framed it as another future-facing move, following the deal for Lucca Brughmans.
So Liverpool secure tomorrow’s striker now, then leave him in France for another season to grow.
Gakpo, City and the winger domino
The N’Guessan deal drops into a much bigger story around Liverpool’s attack.
Cody Gakpo is at the centre of it. According to Romano, the Dutchman has already reached a full agreement on personal terms with Manchester City, and City have sent an £85m bid to Liverpool.
The decision sits with the Anfield hierarchy. They will only cash in if they land a new right-sided winger before the deadline. No winger, no sale.
That has pushed Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr to the front of the queue. On his YouTube channel, Romano described Sarr as the “favourite” option ahead of Yankuba Minteh, even as Palace publicly resist a sale.
Palace, Romano says, are still saying no to letting Sarr go, while at the same time sounding out possible replacements in case the right offer lands. Liverpool have already tested their resolve.
Earlier this week, the Reds sent an official written bid worth £45m plus £5m in add-ons – a £50m package – and Palace rejected it. Romano insists that bid was very real, despite initial denials, and the story has now burst into the open.
Sarr, for his part, wants the move. He wants Liverpool. The standoff is now between the two clubs and the clock.
Around them, the market is swirling. Agents and clubs are flooding Liverpool with winger options because everyone knows they need one if Gakpo is to be allowed to join City.
Liverpool have already booked one forward for the future in N’Guessan. The next few hours will reveal whether they are ready to reshape the present as well.
