Liverpool’s summer rebuild is still in motion, but one door at Anfield has effectively closed for good.
Liverpool juggle big-money winger pursuits
The club remain active in the market for wide players, with moves ongoing for Bradley Barcola and Yankuba Minteh. Both deals are live, both complicated, and both come with price tags Liverpool are not comfortable with.
Barcola is being quoted at around £120m, according to multiple reports, as Paris Saint-Germain prepare for the 23-year-old’s possible exit. Brighton, sensing the market and their leverage, are pushing hard on Minteh. Their valuation of the 22-year-old has climbed to £80m and they are increasingly confident of getting close to that figure.
Whether Richard Hughes is willing to go that high is another matter. Liverpool, Premier League champions for 2024/25, could yet decide to walk away rather than be dragged into a bidding war that stretches their valuation of both players.
At the same time, the club must clear space. Stefan Bajcetic, Federico Chiesa and Harvey Elliott are all set to leave as part of the outgoing business that still needs to be finalised.
Ramsay’s Liverpool chapter winds down
One move is already signed off. Calvin Ramsay has joined St Mirren on loan for the 2026/27 season, a switch that feels less like a temporary detour and more like the beginning of a new career path away from Merseyside.
It has been a stop-start, often brutal spell for the 23-year-old since Liverpool brought him in from Aberdeen for just over £4m in 2022. The promise was clear. The pathway never really materialised.
Instead of building a role at Anfield, Ramsay has been shuttled out on a series of loans — Preston, Bolton, Wigan, Kilmarnock. Minutes came in patches, rhythm almost never. For some Liverpool supporters, Arne Slot’s readiness to move him on only underlined the club’s issues at right-back last season and raised questions over whether Ramsay had been discarded too quickly.

In Paisley, Ramsay will get what he has been missing: a defined role and regular football. Manager Craig McLeish has already nailed his colours to the mast, describing the defender’s ability as “exceptional” and making it clear this is a key year in the full-back’s development.
"It's a really important year for Calvin where he needs to find regular football to help kick on his career and we're happy to give him that platform because we get an exceptional young player to add to our group," McLeish said, speaking to BBC Sport.
The structure of the move speaks volumes. Ramsay is under contract at Liverpool until 2027, yet the club are content for him to see that deal out on loan elsewhere. Barring a dramatic twist, his future lies away from Anfield.
He departs having broken through under Jurgen Klopp, but only just: four senior appearances in total before the revolving door of loan spells began.
Now comes the reset. A full season in the Scottish Premiership, a manager who believes in him, and a clear incentive: convince suitors that the “exceptional” tag belongs not to a scouting report from the past, but to the player he can still become.
