Liverpool Intensify Pursuit of PSG's Ibrahim Mbaye

Liverpool’s window is finally threatening to catch fire.

With the deadline creeping into view and glaring gaps still in Andoni Iraola’s squad, the club are preparing a new push – this time for Paris Saint-Germain forward Ibrahim Mbaye.

Mbaye emerges alongside Barcola

Bradley Barcola remains the headline target. Talks with PSG over the France international are ongoing, with any deal expected to smash through the £100m barrier.

But Liverpool know they cannot wait on one name alone.

Reports in France, via L’Equipe, claim the Anfield hierarchy are now readying a concrete offer for Mbaye, with a proposal expected to land on PSG’s desk by the end of next week.

The 21-year-old is not the bargain once suggested. His price is now thought to be higher than the initially reported €40m, yet he still represents a significantly cheaper route than Barcola and a way to inject much‑needed depth and dynamism into Iraola’s forward line.

Filling the Salah void – and planning for Gakpo’s exit

The problem is obvious and it is huge: Liverpool still have a Mohamed Salah‑sized void on the right of their attack.

Iraola has been forced to work around that absence in pre-season, but the club’s recruitment team know a stopgap will not do. Mbaye is viewed as a player who could be deployed in that space, offering pace, direct running and the kind of high‑energy pressing Iraola demands.

The urgency is sharpened by Cody Gakpo’s situation. The Dutchman is increasingly expected to complete a move to Tottenham Hotspur, stripping Liverpool of yet another attacking option and leaving the bench looking thin for a club with Premier League and European ambitions.

Once Gakpo goes, Liverpool’s need is no longer strategic. It becomes critical.

A statement raid on Europe’s champions?

Jeremy Jacquet, Victor Munoz and Ronald Araujo have already arrived, giving Liverpool fresh legs in other areas of the pitch, but none of them solve the issue in the front line.

That is why the club are now weighing up what would be a bold double swoop on the European champions: Barcola as the marquee signing, Mbaye as the smart, aggressive addition to round out the attack.

If Liverpool do follow through and prise both from PSG in the final weeks of the window, it will not just plug holes.

It will send a message about where Iraola and this squad intend to go next.
