Liverpool's Transfer Window Heats Up with N'Guessan Signing

Liverpool’s quiet window has suddenly burst into life, with Andoni Iraola moving fast to reshape his attack before Tuesday’s deadline.

After agreeing a £30million deal earlier on Monday for Genk goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans, Liverpool have now struck a second agreement just hours later, this time for one of France’s most highly regarded young forwards.

Liverpool land N'Guessan as youth drive continues

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Reds have reached an agreement with Saint-Etienne for 18-year-old striker Djylian N'Guessan. The teenager has been granted permission to undergo a medical as Liverpool race the clock in the final days of the window.

The plan is long term. N'Guessan is expected to officially link up with the Liverpool squad in the summer of 2027, underlining the club’s commitment to building a pipeline of talent rather than just chasing short-term fixes.

Saint-Etienne were already braced for his exit. With N'Guessan out of contract next summer, French outlet Foot Mercato reported that the Ligue 2 club had effectively “opened the door” to his departure, knowing they risked losing him for nothing.

He will join a growing cluster of highly rated youngsters earmarked for Anfield’s future, as Liverpool balance immediate first-team needs with a clear recruitment strategy for the next generation.

Winger hunt continues as Salah replacement sought

This late push does not change the headline priority. Liverpool remain in the market for a new left-winger as they prepare for life after Mohamed Salah.

Bradley Barcola has emerged as the leading target, with talks said to be progressing quickly last week and an expectation that a deal could be wrapped up before the window shuts. The club have also explored a move for Ismaila Sarr, who has surfaced as a secondary option around the time of Saturday’s draw with Nottingham Forest.

Iraola has never hidden where he wants reinforcements most, but he has been clear that Liverpool’s business will not stop at the flanks if opportunities arise.

“In the end there are certain things that you can do, certain things that we don’t know if we can do,” he said when pressed on his plans. “It’s true that the priority has been to strengthen in the wide areas. Still we have four, five days, I’m sure if we can improve other areas, we will, but I don’t know how the market is going to finish.

“I cannot tell you. I have to be patient, the same as you. I want to know, believe me. It’s very uncomfortable for me. You are dealing with uncertainties all the time.”
