Luka Modric Commits to AC Milan Until Mid-2027

Luka Modric, now 40, has decided to stay with AC Milan by signing a new contract that runs through the middle of 2027. The club made the announcement through their official channels, confirming the midfielder's commitment beyond the original end date of June 30, 2026.

Modric’s previous deal had expired, making him a free agent for a brief period. The Croatian star had mentioned he would wait until after the 2026 World Cup to decide his next step. Despite turning 41 later this summer, he remains eager to continue playing at a high level.

“Since his arrival, Luka has been a key player in AC Milan’s midfield and has placed his experience and qualities, both on and off the pitch, at the service of the team with humility and great passion,” the club said on its website.

The club praised Modric as one of football’s best and most recognizable figures, emphasizing his role in their future plans. He will keep his iconic number 14 jersey while contributing to Milan’s ambitions under new head coach Rúben Amorim, who was recently appointed to lead the team forward.

Modric’s Journey to Milan and Recent Performances

After ending a remarkable run at Real Madrid, Modric joined AC Milan on a free transfer in the summer of 2025. He quickly became a central figure in the team's midfield during his debut season in Serie A.

Throughout 37 competitive appearances, he scored two goals and assisted three times, showing that age hasn't dulled his influence. At the 2026 World Cup, he played every minute for Croatia until they were knocked out by Portugal in the round of 16. This follows a strong international career highlighted by being runners-up in the 2018 tournament.
