Manchester City Signs Ayyoub Bouaddi for £85.6m

Manchester City have struck an agreement in principle worth 100m euros (£85.6m) to sign Lille’s 18-year-old midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, in one of the standout deals of the summer window.

BBC Sport revealed earlier in the week that City and Lille were in advanced negotiations for the Morocco international. Those talks have now produced a deal: Bouaddi is set to join Enzo Maresca’s side after Lille accepted an initial £81.4m fee, with a further £4.2m to come in add-ons.

It ends a drawn-out pursuit and underlines just how aggressively City have chosen to reshape the heart of their team.

Midfield ripped up – and rebuilt

City have already cashed in on two pillars of their engine room. Rodri has joined Barcelona in a £65m move, while Tijjani Reijnders has departed for Saudi Arabian club Al-Qadsiah in a £52m deal. Two major exits, both central, both influential.

The response has been decisive. Central midfield is no longer a quiet area of gradual evolution at City; it is the main construction site.

Bouaddi now arrives as a headline investment, a teenager carrying a nine-figure valuation in euros and the expectation that he can grow into a long-term reference point in Maresca’s system.

He is not the only new piece. City have already brought in England international Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for £116m, another major outlay that signals a clear intention: the champions do not plan to drift into a transition season.

More business to come?

City’s recruitment drive in midfield may not be finished. They retain an interest in Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez, though whether they can push that interest into an agreement remains uncertain.

For now, the story is Bouaddi. An 18-year-old leaving Lille for a fee that would make most established stars blink, stepping into a squad undergoing a rapid, ruthless refit.
