Defensive Reinforcement on Deadline Day

The Red Devils have reignited their interest in the Spain international, working late to finalize a deal. After a £150m overhaul of their midfield with signings like Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, and Carlos Baleba, the left-back spot remains a key area of concern.

Earlier plans to target Newcastle's Lewis Hall fell through as the Magpies refused to sell the England youth international, forcing United to look elsewhere.

Negotiations and Barcelona's Position

Discussions with Balde’s agent, Jorge Mendes, began late August, although it was thought Balde would stay at Barcelona and compete for his place under Hansi Flick. Yet, Balde hasn’t featured competitively this season despite being in the squad against Rayo Vallecano. Manchester United prefer a loan deal to cover this season's needs, but Barcelona, facing financial difficulties, want a permanent sale. They have set Balde’s price at around £34m and are standing firm on a full transfer.

United considered Racing Santander's Jorge Salinas, who has a £13m release clause, but decided not to pursue him. Racing has already signed Aaron Martin from Genoa as Salinas’ replacement. The club remains focused on securing Balde before the deadline.
