Manchester United are preparing to open talks with Barcelona over Alejandro Balde, with the 22-year-old emerging as a serious target for Erik ten Hag’s side.
Reporter Nicolo Schira claims United have already signalled their interest and are now expected to hold direct discussions with Balde’s agent, Jorge Mendes, over a possible move. ESPN sources have backed up the interest, noting that United have been closely monitoring the situation.
The concern is clear: Luke Shaw’s fitness. United doubt the England international can handle three matches a week across the Premier League and UEFA Champions League, and they do not want to gamble on such a fragile equation at left-back.
The club have already tested the market. Earlier in the window, United made enquiries for Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall. Balde, though, offers something different: youth, elite-level experience at Barcelona, and the kind of athletic profile that can lock down the position for years.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Manchester City are preparing a proposal for Enzo Fernández. The exact timing of the bid is not yet clear, but the intent is. City plan to come in strong.
Personal terms are not expected to be a stumbling block. The Argentina international has already given the green light to the move, according to the same report, and Nicolo Schira adds that Fernández himself is pushing to make it happen.

Villa test Palace resolve over Mateta
Aston Villa’s search for attacking depth has led them back to a familiar name.
The Athletic reports that Villa have tabled an offer for Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, but the bid falls well below Palace’s valuation of the 29-year-old.
