Manchester United’s transfer window is edging towards its climax, but the noise around Old Trafford is only getting louder.
INEOS are still juggling multiple dossiers: a new left-back, a bold attacking gamble, a loan exit for a teenage prospect, and a centre-forward ready to walk away before the deadline. It’s messy. It’s frantic. It’s exactly what late August looks like at a club of this size.
Raum stays on United’s radar
On the left side of defence, David Raum remains firmly in the conversation.
The RB Leipzig full-back, who has just one year left on his contract, is still being assessed as a live option by United’s hierarchy, according to TeamTALK. The Germany international has long been admired for his energy and delivery from wide areas, and the contractual situation in Leipzig gives INEOS a potential opening.
Nothing is close, no bids have been reported, but his name has not been scrubbed from the list. With time running down and United still weighing up how aggressively to move in this window, Raum sits there as a possible late play if the numbers fall into place.
McCoist pushes Kroupi as a “smart signing”
While the club’s scouts work through their files, one high-profile voice has thrown in a left-field attacking suggestion.
Ally McCoist believes Manchester United should be looking at Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi, even though the forward is currently sidelined with a pre-season injury and is expected to be out for a while.
Speaking to talkSPORT Bet, the former Scotland striker acknowledged how ambitious that sounds given Bournemouth’s form and status.
“At this stage, it's crazy to say Junior Kroupi could play a level up, right? Because Bournemouth have been terrific, as have teams like Brighton, and they are more than capable of holding their own, as we've seen with Bournemouth winning at Arsenal and winning at Newcastle,” McCoist said.
He knows exactly how that lands with Cherries supporters.
“I mean, Bournemouth fans are probably saying, ‘What's he talking about?’ But to go to the next level would be to play for maybe a top four or top five team and play Champions League football.
“In my opinion, he absolutely would not look out of place at a team like Manchester United. I'm more than comfortable with that. He’d be a smart signing.”
It is not a live negotiation, not a concrete link, but it underlines the type of profile many believe United should be targeting: young, dynamic, with room to grow into the shirt.
Feyenoord circle for Chido Obi
While some names are being linked with arrivals, one of United’s recent academy additions could be heading for the exit on a temporary basis.
Chido Obi, who joined from Arsenal in 2024, is attracting interest from Feyenoord. The Danish youngster has made only a handful of first-team appearances and has found it difficult to force his way into Michael Carrick’s senior plans.
Reports in the Netherlands suggest Feyenoord are keen to take him on loan, offering regular minutes in a competitive environment and a clearer pathway than he currently has at Old Trafford.
For United, it poses a familiar question: protect the talent by keeping him close, or let him breathe elsewhere and hope he returns ready to contribute?
Zirkzee pushes for deadline exit
The biggest immediate decision, though, surrounds Joshua Zirkzee.
The Dutch forward, signed in 2024 with high expectations, is now pushing to leave the club before Tuesday’s deadline, according to The Daily Mail. His time under Carrick has stalled; he has not developed into the central figure many anticipated and does not feature in the manager’s plans.
Zirkzee is said to expect a move to be completed before the window shuts. The market around him is active. Aston Villa are leading the chase in England, while Napoli, Juventus, and Roma have all been mentioned as possible destinations on the continent.
United now stand at a crossroads with the 23-year-old: cash in and reshape the forward line, or hold their ground and risk keeping an unhappy squad player.
Raum on the list. Kroupi admired from afar. Obi wanted on loan. Zirkzee ready to go. With the clock ticking down, INEOS must decide what this squad is going to look like when the window slams shut – and what kind of Manchester United they are actually building.
