Manchester United to Update Kit with Premier League Badges

Manchester United will tweak their shirts this weekend to bring their kit fully in line with Premier League rules.

When they host Ipswich at Old Trafford on Sunday, United will wear official Premier League badges on both sleeves, after an opening-day oversight at Hull.

League regulations are clear: every team must carry the Premier League badge and the “No Room For Racism” element on the right sleeve. If a club has no commercial partner on the left arm, the same official badge must appear there as well.

United, currently without a sleeve sponsor, failed to display the Prem logo on their left arm during their 2-0 defeat at Hull City on the first weekend of the season. The mistake was quickly picked up inside the game.

The club and the Premier League are both aware of the error, and United are not expected to face any sanction. Instead, the fix comes immediately, with the corrected kit ready for their first home league match against the newly-promoted Tractor Boys.

United had hoped to unveil a new sleeve sponsor before the campaign began, but talks over a fresh commercial agreement are still ongoing. They wore their new third kit on Saturday, again with bare sleeves.

The gap stems from the end of Old Trafford’s £20million-a-year deal with DXC Technology in May, leaving United without a sleeve sponsor for the first time in eight years. Until a replacement is signed, Premier League Rule M.15 kicks in, compelling clubs without a left-sleeve sponsor to use the league badge on both arms.

Chelsea, Sunderland and Crystal Palace all followed that directive on the opening weekend, with the league’s lion crest mirrored on each sleeve.

United’s broader commercial machine continues to turn. Earlier this month, the club agreed a record multi-year training kit deal with Betway, worth around £20m per season, while Snapdragon have taken over as front-of-shirt sponsor from the start of the 2024/25 campaign.

The only question now is how long those double lion crests stay on United’s sleeves before a new sponsor moves in.
