Mexico Advances to Round of 16 as All Teams from Germany's Group Are Eliminated

Julián Quiñones and Raúl Jiménez, both finding the net in the first half, secured Mexico's spot in the Round of 16 by defeating Ecuador. Jiménez had also scored in Mexico's opening victory against South Africa.

At just 17 years old, Mexican midfielder Gilberto Mora made history as the first player to start a knockout match at this tournament since Pele back in 1958.

Every team from Germany's group has been eliminated after the opening knockout round. Germany themselves fell to Paraguay in a penalty shootout, while Côte d'Ivoire was edged out by Norway thanks to a late goal from Erling Haaland. Meanwhile, all teams from Group F have also exited following losses to the Netherlands, Japan, and Sweden.

Ecuador struggled offensively throughout the tournament, failing to score in three of their four games. Their only goal came during a 2-1 victory over Germany. On the other hand, Mexico stands out as the sole team that has yet to concede a single goal.

Controversy struck late when former Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapié was shown a red card during injury time for covering his mouth while speaking to an opponent. Mexico will continue with strong home support as they prepare to face the winner of the upcoming England versus DR Congo clash in the next round.
