Milan Targets Ruben Dias for Defensive Rebuild
Milan’s defensive rebuild under Ruben Amorim has taken a bold turn, with Manchester City centre-back Ruben Dias emerging as a surprise name on the club’s list of targets.
The Rossoneri have been scouring the market for a new defender, and recent work with super-agent Jorge Mendes has opened an intriguing door. Mendes, who has been in Milan this summer for multiple meetings with the club, also represents Dias – and that connection has pushed the City defender onto Milan’s radar.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, initial talks over a potential deal have already taken place, understood to be with Mendes. Nothing is advanced, but the idea is on the table.
Dias, 29, is believed to be on City’s transfer list. His profile appeals to Milan: an experienced leader at the back, still in his prime, with a point to prove after two seasons disrupted by injuries that have dented his status in Pep Guardiola’s squad. Milan see an opportunity in that dip in stock, hoping to exploit a rare moment of vulnerability around a usually untouchable player.
The complications start quickly, though.
Mendes’ dual role – trusted by Milan and representing Dias – makes the link easy to understand, yet the deal itself looks anything but straightforward. City have already lost Rodri this summer and are deeply reluctant to part with another cornerstone of their recent success. Letting Dias go would mean ripping out another piece of the team’s spine.
Then comes the financial reality.
For Milan, any move for Dias would demand a huge outlay in both transfer fee and wages, pushing the limits of their current project. Competing with Premier League financial muscle on a player of this stature would stretch the Rossoneri, even with Mendes smoothing the lines of communication.
So the idea is there, the conversations have started, and the fit on paper is obvious.
Turning that into a deal? That’s the part that still looks like a long shot.
