Mohamed Salah Welcomes Baby Boy Leil Amid Career Transition

Mohamed Salah has slipped quietly back into Liverpool, not for a transfer twist or a farewell tour, but for the most personal of reasons. His wife has given birth to their third child – and their first son – in the city they once called home.

The former Liverpool forward, who left Anfield in the summer after agreeing to terminate his contract a year early, returned to the north west for the arrival. His sister Rabab revealed on social media that the couple have welcomed a baby boy named Leil, a name that translates as “night” in Arabic.

It is a new chapter for Salah, now 34 and rebuilding his career in Turkey with Trabzonspor. The club’s president, Ertugrul Dogan, confirmed that it has been a busy time off the pitch for two of his biggest names.

Speaking to 61saat, Dogan said: “After the (Amed SK) match, I travelled abroad with Salah and Andre Onana. Both of them had new children, Onana had twins and Salah a baby boy. I congratulate their families and their wives.”

For Salah and his wife Magi, Leil joins a family already deeply rooted in Liverpool memories. The pair grew up together in Nagrig, Salah’s hometown in Egypt, before Magi later trained as a biotechnician. They married in 2013 and welcomed their first daughter, Makka, in 2014, followed by Kayan in 2020.

Those years coincided with Salah’s rise from star signing to Liverpool icon. The family spent almost a decade on Merseyside and, at one stage, expected to stay longer. The Egyptian had signed a two-year deal in 2025, only for club and player to agree to rip it up 12 months early.

Despite that abrupt ending, Salah has never hidden how much the city means to him and his family. Reflecting on their life there, he said previously: “They feel at home [here]. They were very happy, [wife] Magi and the kids, they were very happy that we're staying another two years. It feels like home so everyone was happy.”

Now his professional home is in Trabzon, where the start of his Turkish adventure has already been turbulent. Trabzonspor crashed out of the Europa League play-offs with a 5-0 aggregate defeat to Hungarian side Ferencvaros, a result that preceded the sudden departure of head coach Fatih Tekke.

The setback prompted Salah to issue a firm, defiant message on social media, underlining his commitment to the club and its ambitions.

“Nothing in my career ever came easy. Bad nights and disappointments are part of football, and I have learned to turn them into motivation and into trophies. Trabzonspor is my club, and I am part of this project, body and soul. Last night will not change that. I know expectations are high, and I truly believe we can and will deliver. ‘I came here to win’ is not just a slogan to me.”

A new son, a new club, and the same relentless drive. Salah’s life has shifted from Anfield to the Black Sea, but the standards he sets – on the pitch and at home – show no sign of softening.
