Neymar’s Family Company Clears Debt to Lift Santos’ FIFA Transfer Ban
Santos have finally had their FIFA transfer ban lifted after NR Sports, the agency tied to Brazil star Neymar, stepped in to pay off a £1.7 million debt. This debt was linked to an unresolved issue involving midfielder Jean Lucas and Monaco, which had frozen Santos' ability to register new players since July.
Financial Rescue Clears Sanction
The Brazilian club settled a R$12 million (£1.7m/$2.3m) debt owed to Monaco, allowing them to resume transfer activities. The crucial payment came from NR Sports, providing Santos with an immediate financial boost. As part of the arrangement, Santos and NR Sports will collaborate on marketing and commercialising unallocated kit sponsorship space.
Official Confirmation from Santos
The club confirmed the resolution of the transfer embargo in an official statement released on Thursday: "Santos FC have settled the Transfer Ban and are once again clear to operate in the transfer market. The operation was made possible thanks to the support of NR Sports, through which the Club received an immediate financial injection. In return, Santos FC and the company will jointly negotiate kit sponsorship inventory that has not yet been commercialised."
Looking Ahead: New Signings and Survival Battle
This emergency financial support aims to help Santos address their squad issues amid ongoing struggles. Despite this relief, the club still manages a total estimated debt of around £13 million. With the ban lifted, Santos can now move forward with signing former Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo, who is seen as a key addition to strengthen the squad and help the team avoid relegation.
Upcoming Challenges for Santos
Santos faces a crucial match against Corinthians this weekend, holding only a two-point margin above the relegation zone in the Campeonato Brasileiro. After missing the recent 3-0 loss to Palmeiras in the Copa do Brasil quarter-final first leg, Neymar is expected to return to the starting lineup.
