Christopher Nkunku Transfer Listed by Milan as Roma Circles
Ruben Amorim has dropped a bombshell at Milan. Christopher Nkunku, once a marquee attacking name and a pre-season favourite, has been placed on the transfer list with less than two weeks left in the summer window.
The 28-year-old Frenchman, who arrived with big expectations after his Chelsea spell, is now working on the fringes of the first team at Milanello. The early buzz around him in pre-season has evaporated. Amorim has handed the club hierarchy an updated list of expendable players, and Nkunku is on it.
Roma have reacted quickly.
Roma circle as Nkunku becomes available
Per Calcio Mercato, Nkunku’s sudden availability has immediately drawn interest from the capital. Roma have been tracking his situation closely, sensing an opportunity to strengthen their attack at a crucial moment in the market.
This is not a new crush. Roma’s admiration for Nkunku is long-standing. During the January window, Giallorossi coach Gian Piero Gasperini identified the Frenchman as an ideal tactical fit, particularly for the left side of his attack. He pushed for him. Hard.
Back then, the door stayed firmly shut. Milan resisted, the player was not convinced, and the talks never moved beyond the exploratory stage. The Rossoneri hierarchy and Nkunku’s own stance combined to block any possibility of a winter move.
The interest never died, though. It just waited.
Soule on the table in potential swap
Now the picture has changed. Roma have run into complications in their pursuit of Rodrigo Mora, and that setback has pushed sporting director Tony D’Amico back toward a familiar name. Nkunku is once again a primary target.
According to Asromalive, the new scenario on the table is far more complex – and far more intriguing. A direct player swap is being discussed, with Argentine attacker Soule potentially used as a makeweight in negotiations.
For Milan, Soule is not a throw-in. He is a long-standing target. The Argentine has featured prominently on their recruitment lists as they look to refresh and add creativity in the attacking midfield positions. Slotting him into a deal for Nkunku would tick a major tactical box for Amorim.
On paper, it looks clean: Nkunku to Roma, Soule to Milan. Two clubs, two coaches, both walking away with the profile they wanted.
Fees aligned, wages not
Financially, the transfer fees are not expected to be the sticking point. Both Milan and Roma are understood to value their players in a similar bracket, roughly between €35 million and €40 million. That alignment removes one of the usual flashpoints in a high-profile swap.
The real problem lies in the wage packets.
Nkunku’s salary sits significantly higher than Soule’s. Reports indicate the Argentine currently earns just over half of what the French forward takes home. That gap creates a major obstacle, especially for Roma, who must decide how far they are willing to stretch their wage structure to land Gasperini’s long-time target.
Any agreement would need careful construction: salary adjustments, possible bonuses, maybe a creative payment schedule. Without that, the numbers simply do not match.
The clock is ticking. The deadline is closing in, the talks are set to intensify, and the margin for error is shrinking. Milan want to reshape Amorim’s attack. Roma want to finally give Gasperini the left-sided forward he has been chasing for months.
The question now is simple: who bends first to make this high-stakes swap a reality?
