Crystal Palace's Pierre Sage Confirms Ismaila Sarr Injury Amid Liverpool Transfer Interest

Pierre Sage, the manager of Crystal Palace, has confirmed that Ismaila Sarr is sidelined due to a groin injury rather than refusing to train in an attempt to push through a transfer to Liverpool. Despite strong interest from Liverpool, including a £50 million offer, Sage insists that Sarr's absence from training is genuine and not a tactic to force a move.

Sarr's Status Amid Transfer Speculation

The winger missed Palace’s Premier League opener against Everton and will also not feature in the upcoming match against Manchester City. Sage emphasized that Sarr’s current focus is on recovery and that the player remains committed to the club despite the ongoing transfer rumors.

"Ismaila Sarr is injured. He is in pain with his groin - that’s why you didn’t see him with us today. He is doing individual training because he is really in pain with his groin. But we’ll prepare him, he needs time," Sage said.

Manager Addresses Liverpool’s Interest

The manager acknowledged the challenge Sarr faces with his name being linked to a high-profile club like Liverpool but reaffirmed the player's dedication to Crystal Palace where he still has three years left on his contract.

"It’s always difficult for a player when your name is associated with a club like Liverpool. For now, the most important thing is to understand the player is not able to play and is in treatment, and what happens with his potential future is really far from me," Sage explained.

Handling the Transfer Window Pressure

With the summer transfer window nearing its close, Sage sympathizes with the pressure on Sarr, who has also been linked with Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal. The manager held private discussions with Sarr to keep his mindset positive amid the intense speculation.

"I understand that for everybody to have this kind of contact is difficult, because you hesitate a lot. But for the moment, he is with us. He is under contract. He is injured and maybe you can make a link between his injury and the situation. But for me, he is honest and I have no problem with that," Sage added.
