Porto and Roma Negotiations Stalled Over Rodrigo Mora Deal
The tug of war over Rodrigo Mora has hit a hard stop. Yesterday morning, Porto abruptly broke off negotiations with Roma after the Italian club refused to accept a demanding buy-clause package for the highly rated youngster.
Porto’s stance is clear and aggressive: a €10 million loan fee, a €40 million option to buy, clauses that could easily turn that option into an obligation, performance-related bonuses, and a percentage on any future sale. It is a structure built to protect Porto’s asset and to cash in heavily if Mora explodes in Serie A.
Roma’s response was just as clear. No.
The Giallorossi rejected the proposal, judging the overall package excessive, and talks froze. Portuguese outlet Ojogo describes the situation as tense. Not dead. Just locked.
Jorge Mendes has stepped in as mediator, trying to bridge the gap between the two clubs, but there were no direct contacts between Roma and Porto yesterday. Silence, for now.
That leaves Roma boxed into a simple, brutal choice. Either they swallow Porto’s terms as they are, or they come back with an improved structure on the obligation to buy that can tempt the Dragoes back to the table.
The talent is not in doubt. The price of betting on it is.
