PSG's Urgent Push to Secure Kvaratskhelia Before Ballon d'Or

Paris Saint-Germain are moving at full speed to tie Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to a new, improved contract – and the clock is ticking.

On paper, there should be no rush. The Georgian star is already tied to the club until 2029. In reality, PSG see a financial time bomb on the horizon: the Ballon d'Or ceremony next month.

According to L'Équipe, the Paris hierarchy are convinced Kvaratskhelia is a serious contender for the award. If he walks into that gala and walks out as the new Ballon d'Or winner without a fresh deal signed, they fear the numbers on his next contract could explode.

Luis Campos has no intention of letting that happen.

The sporting director is driving an aggressive plan: get an extension done now, on PSG’s terms, with a major pay rise and a hefty bonus clause if Kvaratskhelia actually wins the Ballon d'Or. The idea is simple. Reward him like the superstar he already is, before the trophy – and his new agent Moussa Sissoko – push the asking price into another stratosphere.

The concern in Paris is not abstract. Club executives are said to be “deeply” worried about how big a renewal could become if they delay. They would much rather negotiate with a Ballon d'Or favourite than with a Ballon d'Or winner.

Kvaratskhelia has given them every reason to panic about his value. Since arriving from Napoli in January 2025 for a huge fee, he has changed the face of this PSG side. He delivers when it matters most, his influence growing every time the level of opposition rises. The bigger the stage, the sharper his impact.

That reputation soared again last season as he drove the club to a European double, a feat that instantly elevated his status into the game’s elite. Across the continent, top clubs have backed off, accepting that he is essentially untouchable in the current market. PSG know it too – and know that his salary has to reflect it.

So they have set themselves a hard deadline: one month to close the deal.

The urgency is shaped by recent scars. Negotiations to keep Ousmane Dembele dragged on and became more complicated than the board expected. The fallout from Kylian Mbappé’s drawn-out departure saga still hangs over the club as a warning of what happens when a star player holds all the leverage.

This time, the message from the boardroom is different. No more endless stand-offs. No more players dictating the rhythm of talks.

Whether Kvaratskhelia and his camp accept that tempo is another matter. Sissoko is known as a demanding negotiator, and with the Ballon d'Or spotlight about to shine even brighter on his client, the temptation to wait could be strong.

PSG, though, have drawn their line. They want their new franchise player secured before the golden ball is handed out – or risk watching his price tag, and his power, surge in front of the whole football world.
