PSG Reach Agreement to Sign Winger Mika Godts for €55m
Paris Saint-Germain have moved decisively in the market, reaching a verbal agreement with Ajax to sign highly rated winger Mika Godts in a package worth €55m (£46.9m).
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reported on X that PSG have a verbal pact in place after submitting a new official bid, with paperwork still to follow. The deal, first flagged as an exclusive in July, now looks on the brink of completion.
Godts is set to arrive as part of a major reshaping of Luis Enrique’s frontline, alongside Barcelona forward Ferran Torres, who is closing in on his own switch to the Parc des Princes. Two new wide forwards, big money spent, and one clear consequence: the path is opening for Bradley Barcola to leave.
Barcola future in focus as PSG load up in attack
PSG’s aggressive move for Godts, on top of the Torres agreement, underlines a clear strategy: stack the attacking options, then start trimming. Barcola sits right at the centre of that equation.
The Frenchman has been on Liverpool’s radar for weeks, with the Premier League club understood to be in regular contact with PSG over a possible deal. Those talks now carry extra weight. Once Godts and Torres are officially unveiled, Barcola becomes far easier to sacrifice.
PSG are expected to soften their stance on outgoings as soon as their incoming business is secure. The Ligue 1 champions have been holding out for around £145m for Barcola, a figure Liverpool have no intention of meeting. Internally, the Anfield hierarchy value the winger closer to £100m.
How far PSG are willing to climb down from their ideal price remains the key question. A compromise somewhere between the two positions would drag one of the window’s longest-running sagas towards a conclusion.
Liverpool waiting for the domino to fall
Liverpool’s recruitment team, led by Richard Hughes, have been preparing for this moment. Their dialogue with PSG this week reflects a club ready to move as soon as the Paris side give the green light.
If Godts and Torres complete their transfers without late drama, Liverpool will expect negotiations for Barcola to accelerate. The Merseyside club are also keeping a close eye on Ibrahim Mbaye, the 18-year-old talent who has caught the eye alongside Barcola, though any move there would be a separate discussion.
Time, however, is already tightening. With a trip to Newcastle away in nine days, Liverpool have effectively missed the chance to give Barcola – or any other late arrival – a full pre-season bedding-in period with Arne Slot’s squad.
That lost preparation time only increases the urgency. The window runs until September, but Liverpool know they cannot afford to drift. PSG, once they sign off on Godts and Torres, will finally be in a position to sell.
The pressure is building on both sides of the deal. PSG want room in their squad and on their wage bill. Liverpool want a marquee wide forward without smashing their valuation ceiling.
The frontline in Paris is being rebuilt at speed. The real intrigue now lies in whether that rebuild ends with Barcola lighting up Anfield instead of the Parc des Princes.
