PSG's Transfer Strategy: Godts Acquisition and Barcola's Exit
Paris Saint-Germain are quietly rearranging the pieces of their attack, and two names now sit at the heart of it: Mika Godts and Bradley Barcola.
The French champions are pushing ahead with a move for Ajax winger Godts, and that pursuit is now directly tied to Barcola’s expected exit. PSG have told Liverpool they are prepared to soften their stance on the France international’s fee, but only if the numbers edge closer to their demands.
Godts deal drives Barcola exit
Talks with Ajax over Godts have accelerated. PSG have lodged a fresh offer that now sits close to the Dutch club’s valuation, with an agreement for the 21-year-old viewed as realistic by the end of the weekend. Inside the club, Godts has been ring‑fenced as Barcola’s like-for-like replacement on the flank, the signing that finally unlocks the door for the 23-year-old to leave.
Agent Jorge Mendes is helping steer the Godts negotiations, with the proposed deal expected to land at around €50million. PSG see that outlay as the key to reshaping their forward line and, crucially, as the green light to cash in on Barcola after initially standing firm on a £145m price tag.
Once Godts is through the door, Barcola’s sale stops being a theoretical discussion and becomes a live decision.
Liverpool lead the chase – but price is king
Liverpool, for their part, are ready. Barcola has already agreed personal terms with the Anfield club, and his preference for a move to Merseyside has been evident throughout the process. He wants Liverpool. Liverpool want him.
Arsenal have monitored the situation and held talks over the winger, but the Gunners are currently trailing. Sources indicate Liverpool remain firmly at the front of the queue, with the player already aligned on the move and only one major issue left on the table: the fee.
Liverpool currently value a potential deal at around £100million. PSG, while no longer clinging to their initial £145m stance, still see a package closer to £125million as realistic business. That kind of figure would propel Barcola into the record books as the most expensive British transfer of all time, eclipsing last summer’s headline move for Alexander Isak to Newcastle.
PSG have now made it clear there is room to manoeuvre. The door is open, but not wide enough yet. They want Liverpool to step up from their current valuation and meet them somewhere nearer that £125m mark.
PSG’s wider attacking puzzle
This is not a one-off reshuffle in Paris; it is a broader succession plan taking shape.
Ferran Torres already has an agreement in place to arrive from Barcelona, earmarked specifically as the replacement for Goncalo Ramos. Maghnes Akliouche has come in to take the spot vacated by Lee Kang-In. In that framework, Godts is the man designated to occupy Barcola’s lane on the pitch.
That is why PSG are pushing so aggressively to close the Godts deal with Ajax now. Once that piece drops, the rest of their forward line clicks into place.
If Ajax and PSG can finalise terms for Godts this weekend, the last real barrier to Barcola’s move will be the size of Liverpool’s bid. The player is ready, the personal terms are done, and PSG are no longer immovable on price.
For the moment, the picture is clear: Godts is edging towards Paris, Barcola is lined up for Liverpool, and the outcome of one negotiation will define the other. Now it comes down to how far Liverpool are willing to go.
