Raheem Sterling Charged with Dangerous Driving and Nitrous Oxide Possession

Raheem Sterling has been charged with dangerous driving and possession of nitrous oxide following a late-night crash on the M3 in May.

Police confirmed the former England winger faces three offences after a single-vehicle collision on 28 May, involving a Lamborghini on the southbound carriageway near the Minley Interchange in Hampshire. No other cars were involved and no injuries were reported.

"A driver will appear in court next month to face charges following a collision on the M3," a Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesman told BBC News, before naming Sterling and outlining the charges: dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, and failing to provide a specimen.

Sterling, 31, from Berkshire, is due to appear at Basingstoke magistrates’ court on 15 September.

The case comes at a crossroads moment in his career. Sterling has been without a club since leaving Dutch side Feyenoord at the end of last season, a free agent after a journey that has taken him through some of English football’s biggest dressing rooms.

He has worn the shirts of Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal, and at his peak became a central figure for the national team. Across 82 caps for England, he scored 20 goals and played a key role in two of the Three Lions’ most significant modern runs: the 2018 World Cup semifinals and the Euro 2020 final.

Now, instead of transfer talks and pre-season plans, Sterling’s next date is in a magistrates’ court, with his immediate future set to be shaped off the pitch rather than on it.
