Rangers Seen as 'Bigger Club Than Tottenham' But Mikey Moore's Old Firm Return Seems Unlikely
Former Rangers defender Colin Hendry has told GOAL that Rangers rank as a "bigger club than Tottenham," but the Scottish giants may face disappointment in their attempts to bring Mikey Moore back for another spell at Ibrox. The teenage talent caught attention across Glasgow last season, though it appears Spurs plan to send him elsewhere before the summer 2026 transfer window closes.
Moore’s Impact During Loan Spell
Moore joined Rangers just before his 18th birthday, having already set a record as the youngest player to appear for Tottenham in the Premier League at 16 years and 277 days old. Recognized as one of North London’s brightest prospects, he has found consistent first-team chances limited by Tottenham’s recent struggles, finishing 17th in consecutive seasons.
Rangers provided Moore with a platform to develop during the 2025-26 campaign, where he made 47 appearances and scored seven goals, gaining valuable experience under intense scrutiny. "Mikey Moore would be a welcome addition," Hendry said. "At 19, he's gone abroad to a bigger club—bigger club Rangers than Tottenham. Some in England might disagree, but based on history and stature, Rangers hold that claim. Tottenham aren’t clearly a top-six side at the moment; they barely avoided relegation last season."
"Moore has to consider where he stands at Tottenham versus what he experienced here. Could he establish himself at Spurs? Rangers would surely be happy to have him back, but it’s uncertain."
Potential Move to Germany Could Broaden Experience
There’s talk of Moore moving to Cologne in the Bundesliga, a step Hendry understands as beneficial. He explained the club can only present options to young players not ready for regular first-team action yet.
"Every young player thinks they can break into the first team immediately," Hendry added. "Some get a chance briefly, but squad depth and competition are factors. It’s a positive scenario for Moore, gaining experience in leagues like Italy, Spain, or Germany where the crowds and atmosphere are remarkable."
"Bayern Munich dominate Germany currently, but the Bundesliga is well supported. While it’d be great for Rangers to have him back, it seems highly unlikely."
