Raphinha Ends Exit Talk and Commits to Barcelona

Raphinha has ended the summer noise with one clear message: he is not going anywhere. Not now. And, if he gets his way, not ever.

After months of speculation over his future, the Barcelona forward has confirmed he wants to stay at the club long term and is ready to sit down with the board to discuss a new contract, despite already being tied down until 2028.

Appointed first captain by Hansi Flick this season, Raphinha has responded to the armband with the most convincing argument a forward can offer – goals. He leads the scoring charts in Spain with nine, driving a Barcelona side that have exploded out of the blocks domestically.

That form has sharpened the club’s focus. Sporting director Deco has already spoken about plans to secure Raphinha’s future beyond his current deal, and the Brazilian has welcomed the idea of fresh talks.

"I renewed until 2028 with the idea that, by then, I would be 30 or 31 years old and I didn't know how I would manage," he told RAC1. Back then, he viewed 2028 as a natural checkpoint, a moment to reassess his body, his level, his ambitions.

The picture looks very different now. In outstanding physical condition and in the best form of his Barcelona career, Raphinha believes he has far more mileage at the elite level than he once imagined. Under Flick’s guidance he feels fully settled, fully trusted, and fully convinced he can maintain this output for several more seasons.

He wants that to happen in one shirt only.

"But given how I've started the season, I understand that I have enough to last a few more years. So, yes, I would be happy to extend my contract a little and finish my career here without having to go anywhere else," he said, making his stance on future transfers unmistakably clear.

Barcelona have seen the evidence on the pitch. His recent hat-trick against Racing Santander underlined why the club are so keen to lock him down for the long haul, a ruthless display that showcased the mix of confidence and efficiency that now defines his game.

Next up is Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan on Saturday, where the captain will look to push his league tally beyond nine and keep riding this wave. Then comes the Champions League, a competition in which he has already left his mark this season with a brace in a 5-1 dismantling of Feyenoord.

The contract talks can wait a little. Right now, Raphinha is playing like a man determined to make Barcelona his final stop – and to make these peak years impossible to ignore.
