Rashford Expected to Stay at Manchester United Amid Zirkzee Interest
Michael Carrick is just about the last man you expect to lift the lid on Manchester United’s transfer plans. He doesn’t do noise. He doesn’t do hints. He certainly doesn’t do sagas.
He will have no choice but to face them, though.
With United preparing for Ipswich at Old Trafford on Sunday, Carrick’s press conference is set to be dominated by two names: Joshua Zirkzee and Marcus Rashford.
Rashford expected to stay – and push for a start
Rashford is again being linked with a move away, this time with fresh reports of interest from Fenerbahce. The message around the club, however, has barely shifted for weeks.
The consistent stance from all sides over the past month has been simple: Rashford is expected to remain at United this season. That remains the situation now.
His performance at Hull City last week only strengthened that position. Introduced at half-time in the defeat, Rashford was one of United’s brighter players, injecting urgency and threat in a flat display. On that evidence, there is a genuine chance he is promoted to the starting XI against Ipswich.
So while the questions will come about Turkey and a possible exit, the football reality points in the opposite direction: Rashford is still in the plans, and very much in the frame for Sunday.
Zirkzee interest heats up
Zirkzee’s situation feels far less settled.
The Netherlands forward has attracted attention across Serie A throughout the summer, and that interest is beginning to harden. Fiorentina have now stepped forward with an approach focused on a loan deal.
That doesn’t quite match United’s thinking.
The club would prefer to cash in with a permanent sale, or at the very least agree a loan that includes an obligation to buy. A straight loan, with no guaranteed fee down the line, is not the ideal outcome for a player whose market value is strong and whose profile has drawn several admirers in Italy.
The question now is whether any of those other Italian clubs who have been circling decide to act. Fiorentina have made the first move; the rest of Serie A’s suitors must decide if they are prepared to turn interest into a concrete bid.
Carrick, true to type, is unlikely to offer much more than a tight smile and a brief line when the questions land. The decisions, though, will speak louder than anything he says – on the training ground this week, in his team sheet on Sunday, and in the deals United are willing to accept before the window closes.
