Sir Jim Ratcliffe is braced for bad news. Harry Kane, the striker he would love to see leading the line at Old Trafford, is moving closer to committing his long-term future to Bayern Munich.

Manchester United’s new powerbroker is a long-time admirer of Kane. Sources indicate Ratcliffe would happily sanction a move for the former Tottenham Hotspur captain, whose Bayern contract runs out at the end of the season. United, for their part, are understood to be open to exploring a deal if any encouragement emerged from Munich.
That encouragement never really came.
Back on August 10, transfer insider Graeme Bailey reported that United were among the clubs keen on Kane, but also made clear the forward’s own stance: he wants to stay at Bayern. The German champions have acted accordingly, preparing a new three-year contract for the 33-year-old England international.
Now the story is accelerating.
Bayern confident, announcement looming
In Germany, the message is increasingly blunt: Kane is going nowhere.
Bild journalist Christian Falk, writing on his CFBayernInsider platform, revealed that Bayern figures are relaxed about the situation and fully expect an agreement. Speaking after Kane was named “football star of the year” at the Sport Bild Awards, Falk detailed the mood inside the club.
Kane joined the ceremony via Zoom, while his father Pat attended in person at the Fischauktionshalle in Hamburg. Falk spoke with Bayern president Herbert Hainer about the striker’s future and came away with a clear impression: there is no panic, only confidence.
According to Falk, Bayern believe a new deal is “just a matter of time”. Some contract details still need ironing out, but the club expects to announce Kane’s decision next month, and certainly before the end of this year. The extension is set to run beyond 2026, which would lock the forward in for the prime of what remains of his career.
If that happens, Kane is effectively off the market. For a long time.
United told: hands off
For Manchester United and Ratcliffe, the message could hardly be more direct. Falk even signed off with a pointed nod to Old Trafford, apologising to Kane’s “long-time admirers, Manchester United”, and underlining that an extension would shut the door on any transfer chase.
United’s search for an elite centre-forward, at least where Kane is concerned, looks destined to end not with negotiations, but with a contract signing in Munich.
