Real Betis Target Moroccan Full-Back Sofiane El Karouani

Real Betis are already laying the groundwork for one of their key summer moves, targeting Moroccan left-back Sofiane El Karouani on a free transfer.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, the Andalusian club have identified the FC Utrecht defender as a priority option to reinforce the left side of their back line. At 25, El Karouani fits the profile Betis want: energetic, aggressive going forward, and entering what should be the peak years of his career.

The player is open to the switch. A move to La Liga appeals to the Morocco international, who has built a strong reputation in the Eredivisie with his attacking output from deep.

Betis are particularly attracted by the financial side of the deal. Despite reports that his contract with Utrecht runs until the summer of 2026, the operation is being viewed as low-cost and accessible, with the club sensing an opportunity to bring him in on very favourable terms.

El Karouani has played 42 matches this season, scoring three goals and supplying 16 assists – a remarkable return for a left-back and exactly the kind of end product Betis want from that flank.

The Seville club have been searching for a more offensive option at left-back, someone who can consistently push high, combine in the final third and deliver quality into the box. El Karouani ticks those boxes and would arrive as a ready-made weapon rather than a long-term project.

If the deal goes through, he will find a familiar face in the dressing room. His compatriot Abdel Samad El Zalzouli is already part of the Betis squad, a factor that could help smooth his adaptation to Spanish football and life in Seville.

Betis have made their move early. Now the question is whether they can turn strong interest into a decisive signing before another club joins the race.
