Reiss Nelson Departs Arsenal After Mutual Contract Termination

Arsenal have confirmed that Reiss Nelson has left the club after both parties agreed to end his contract by mutual consent. The 26-year-old winger, who developed through the Hale End academy, is now a free agent as he searches for a new team.

A Fresh Start Ahead

Nelson's departure arrives at a crucial point in his career, as he looks for more regular playing time than what Mikel Arteta could provide at the Emirates Stadium. Although he was entering the final year of his deal, which included an option for an additional 12 months, Arsenal decided to release him early to allow a move to happen.

Several Premier League clubs and international sides have shown interest in the winger. West Ham United previously held discussions with Arsenal over a possible transfer. Nelson is expected to carefully evaluate all offers before deciding on his next destination.

Injury Challenges and Limited Action

During the 2025-26 season, Nelson spent time on loan at Brentford but faced setbacks due to injuries and limited chances to play. He featured in only 13 matches across all competitions, starting just three times, all in domestic cup games.

Before Brentford, Nelson was loaned to Fulham for the 2024-25 season but his campaign ended early in December 2024 because of a serious hamstring injury.

From Academy Talent to Senior Squad Member

Nelson’s journey began in Arsenal’s academy, where he was once seen as one of the brightest young talents. He signed his first professional contract in December 2016 and made his senior debut in August 2017 as a substitute against Chelsea in the Community Shield.

After limited first-team opportunities, Nelson went on loan to Hoffenheim in Germany for the 2018-19 season, scoring three goals in 22 appearances. Later, a loan to Feyenoord in August 2021 saw him help the Dutch club reach the Europa Conference League final. Back at Arsenal, his ability to make an impact off the bench earned him a new contract in 2023.

Legacy at Arsenal

Nelson leaves after making 90 appearances for Arsenal, tallying eight goals and nine assists. Though he never quite reached the superstar status many expected, his efforts—highlighted by a memorable 97th-minute winner against Bournemouth in 2023—have left a positive impression among fans.
