Rodri's Move to Barcelona: A Decisive Moment Approaches
Rodri’s long flirtation with Barcelona is edging towards a decisive moment.
The Manchester City midfielder, fresh from lifting the 2024 Ballon d'Or and a World Cup winner’s medal, is now closer than ever to pulling on the Barça shirt, with talks between the clubs moving into what feels like the sharp end.
Spanish outlet Sport reports that Barcelona have already sent a third formal offer to Manchester City, and that proposal has pushed negotiations forward. The gap between the two clubs is narrowing. The deal is not done, but the pieces are beginning to line up.
One of the biggest pieces is Rodri himself.
He wants Barcelona. Not next summer. Now.
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the Spain international is in almost daily contact with several of his national team colleagues who already play at the Catalan club. The messages flying back and forth leave no room for doubt about his intentions: he is pushing hard to make the move happen.
Those conversations are not just polite check-ins. They are part of a deeper bond. The 2024 Ballon d'Or winner has a particularly strong relationship with a core group of Barcelona players, a connection that has heavily influenced his decision to back the club’s project.
Rodri knows exactly what he would be walking into at the Camp Nou. The Spain dressing room is packed with Barcelona faces: Eric García, Dani Olmo, Pau Cubarsí, Lamine Yamal, Joan García, Gavi, Pedri and Fermín López. That cluster of familiar teammates gives him a clear picture of the atmosphere, the expectations and the footballing idea waiting for him in Catalonia.
For a player of his stature, comfort and conviction matter. He already shares a tactical language and a daily rhythm with much of Barça’s core when on international duty. Sliding into that same group at club level is a far smaller leap than starting from scratch elsewhere.
Barcelona have made their move. Rodri has made his preference clear.
Now the decision lies with Manchester City – and how high the Catalan club are willing, or able, to climb to finally bring him home to La Liga.
