San Diego FC Signs Veteran Striker Cedric Bakambu from Real Betis

San Diego FC have announced the acquisition of experienced DR Congo striker Cedric Bakambu after his exit from Real Betis. The 35-year-old forward has committed to the club until the end of the 2026 season, with options available through 2028. His addition brings a wealth of European experience as the team aims for another appearance in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs.

The deal was completed on a free transfer, marking the end of Bakambu’s spell in La Liga. The forward recently played three matches for DR Congo during the 2026 World Cup, helping the team reach the Round of 32 in their tournament debut.

Since breaking into professional football with Sochaux, Bakambu has scored 191 goals and provided 49 assists across 492 appearances. His club journey includes notable stints with Villarreal, Marseille, Olympiacos, and Galatasaray. On the international stage, he has tallied 21 goals in 72 caps for DR Congo and participated in four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

His signing strengthens a forward line featuring Anders Dreyer, Marcus Ingvartsen, and fellow 2026 World Cup participant Elias Achouri.
