Search for Former QPR Midfielder Akos Buzsáky
Hungarian police are searching for former Queens Park Rangers midfielder Akos Buzsáky after the one-time Premier League player was reported missing more than a week ago.
Authorities officially launched the search on August 18, with police records confirming they have been trying to trace the 44-year-old since then, as reported by the Sun.
Former QPR and Hungary midfielder missing
Buzsáky, who earned caps for Hungary and became a familiar name in English football during the late 2000s and early 2010s, has not been seen publicly for several days.
He had been spending long stretches of time in Greece, where he worked as a construction contractor after retiring from professional football.
His father, Ákos Buzsáky Sr., said he was stunned to learn that police were formally involved in the case. Speaking to Hungarian outlet Blikk, he revealed he only discovered the scale of the search when contacted by the media.
"I didn't know that the police were also looking for my son. He basically spends a lot of time in Greece, where he works as a construction contractor. He spent almost the entire last year there," Buzsáky Sr. said.
Reports in Hungary state that Buzsáky no longer lives with the mother of his two daughters. His own mother has also been trying to locate him in recent days and is believed to be the person who first reported him missing to the authorities.
From Plymouth to the Premier League
On the pitch, Buzsáky carved out a respected career in England.
The midfielder first made his mark at Plymouth Argyle before moving to Queens Park Rangers, where his technical quality and eye for goal made him a fan favourite. He featured for QPR in the Premier League during the 2011/12 season, scoring twice in the top flight.
He later joined Portsmouth in League One, where he wound down his professional career before retiring in 2013.
Once the boots were hung up, his life moved away from the spotlight. Construction work in Greece became his main occupation, with extended periods spent abroad and less public visibility.
Another tragedy in the football world
News of Buzsáky’s disappearance comes in the same period the game is mourning another loss. Former West Bromwich Albion midfielder Quevin Castro recently died after collapsing during a pre-season friendly in Portugal.
Castro was just 25. He had celebrated his birthday only days before his death, a stark reminder of how abruptly football’s stories can be cut short.
For Buzsáky, the hope remains that this story finds a different ending — one that brings answers, and brings him home.
