Sofie Lundgaard Joins Eintracht Frankfurt After Leaving Liverpool

Sofie Lundgaard’s stop-start Liverpool chapter is over. The midfielder has completed a permanent move to Eintracht Frankfurt for an undisclosed fee, ending an injury-disrupted spell on Merseyside.

The 24-year-old arrived at Liverpool in January 2023 and went on to make 42 appearances, a tally that hints at promise but also at what might have been. Two anterior cruciate ligament injuries across three-and-a-half years with the club repeatedly stalled her progress and restricted her minutes just as she looked ready to kick on.

Now she heads to the Frauen-Bundesliga, joining an Eintracht Frankfurt side with European ambitions and a reputation for developing technically sharp midfielders. Before Liverpool, Lundgaard had built her name at Danish club Fortuna Hjorring; Frankfurt offers a fresh stage, and crucially, a clean slate.

While Lundgaard moves on, another potential transfer is going nowhere fast.

In the Women’s Super League picture, Birmingham City have seen a bid turned down for Sevilla winger Fatou Kanteh. The Championship club are understood to have offered around 100,000 Euros (£85,000) for the Gambia international, but Sevilla have made their stance clear: they value her significantly higher and do not intend to sell.

The rejection looks decisive. Birmingham are not expected to return with an improved offer for the 29-year-old, who has spent her entire professional career in Spain’s Liga F.

Kanteh has scored 12 goals in 63 matches for Sevilla, having previously represented Villarreal, Huelva and Logrono. A consistent wide threat, proven in Spain and now on WSL radars — but for now, staying exactly where Sevilla want her: in Andalusia, not Birmingham.
