Tiago Gabriel: Lecce's Breakout Defender Attracts Major Interest
Lecce’s latest breakout defender, Tiago Gabriel, is fast becoming one of the most talked‑about names of the summer – and his future is being pulled in several directions.
After a standout 2025/26 campaign in Serie A, the young centre-back has drawn serious interest from abroad. Crystal Palace have already made their move, testing Lecce’s resolve with a €20 million bid earlier in the summer. Lecce said no.
That rejection has opened the door to a wider auction. Benfica are tracking him, while Jorge Mendes, who represents the player, is now actively working the market to place his client at a higher level.
Mendes has offered Tiago Gabriel to Milan, a club with whom he maintains a strong and long-standing relationship. It is not the first time the Rossoneri have been presented with the chance to sign the defender, but the timing now feels different.
The super-agent landed in Milan today to finalise a deal for Diego Moreira, and during those talks, Gabriel’s name came back onto the table. Milan, already aware of his rise at Lecce, have him on their shortlist and have opened initial contacts with the Apulian club.
For now, that is where it stops. No formal offer, no agreement, just a promising talent sitting at the centre of a growing tug of war – with Lecce waiting, Milan weighing their move, and Crystal Palace and Benfica still lurking in the background.
