Toby Collyer Joins West Brom from Manchester United
Toby Collyer is set to swap Old Trafford for the Hawthorns, with Manchester United agreeing a deal that could eventually be worth £7.6m for the young midfielder’s permanent move to West Brom.
United will receive an initial £3m for the 22-year-old, with significant add-ons built into the agreement and a hefty 40% sell-on clause attached. For a player who has yet to make a Premier League impact, it is a move that underlines how highly he is rated inside the game.
West Brom win a tight race
Collyer’s future has been a tug-of-war between two Championship clubs who know him well.
The midfielder spent time on loan at both West Brom and Hull during the 2025/26 season, weighing up which destination would best serve the next stage of his career. At one point, West Brom looked to be in control. Then Hull surged to the front of the queue and appeared poised to clinch his signature.
The picture changed again.
James Morrison, now in charge at the Hawthorns, stepped in and helped tilt the decision back towards West Brom. His influence has proved decisive, with Collyer convinced to commit to the Baggies after direct talks with the head coach.
Morrison’s faith and a fresh start
Collyer’s time at West Brom in the first half of last season was disrupted by injury, limiting his appearances and halting his rhythm just as he was starting to settle. Even so, he did enough on the training ground and in his fleeting outings to impress Morrison and his staff.
That impression has lingered.
Morrison sees a player he can build around in midfield, and Collyer sees something just as important: minutes. The promise of a bigger role and increased playing time has been central to his decision, offering a clear pathway that was harder to guarantee at United or in a split market between two Championship suitors.
West Brom now get their man, Hull are left to look elsewhere, and Collyer finally has the stage he has been chasing. What he does with it in the Championship will decide whether that 40% sell-on clause ever comes back to haunt Manchester United.
