Tottenham Pursues Brazilian Star Arthur Dias
Tottenham Hotspur have moved to the front of the queue for highly rated Brazilian centre-back Arthur Dias, with a host of European clubs circling the Athletico Paranaense teenager.
The 19-year-old has gone from academy hopeful to defensive linchpin in Curitiba, and his surge in form has already earned him a senior Brazil call-up under Carlo Ancelotti. That step into the Seleção spotlight has only intensified the scramble for his signature.
Spurs have been among the quickest to act. Club scouts travelled to the Arena da Baixada earlier this year to watch Dias up close and have already held initial talks over a potential deal. Their first move, though, hit a wall.
Athletico set their price
Athletico rejected Tottenham’s early approach and made their stance clear: any serious bidder will need to come close to a €30 million fee. The Brazilian club know exactly what they have on their hands and are determined not to be rushed into a sale.
Despite that setback, Tottenham’s interest has not cooled. The north London side are expected to return to the table in the coming months as they continue to reshape their defence with younger, technically assured options.
They are far from alone.

From Germany to Italy, Spain to Portugal, the list of admirers is growing. RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen, Atalanta, Como, Atlético Madrid and Benfica are all understood to be monitoring Dias as he continues to rack up minutes in Brazil’s top flight.
From striker to defensive leader
Dias’ profile explains the rush. He started his career as a striker before being converted into a centre-back, a switch that sharpened his understanding of forwards’ movement and helped shape his calmness in possession.
Now, with nearly 50 senior appearances for Athletico, he combines that attacking background with a strong physical presence and sharp reading of the game. Those traits have marked him out as one of the most promising young defenders in Brazilian football.
Athletico hold the cards for now. Dias is under contract until December 2028, and the club are in no hurry to cash in. Their preference is to keep him at least until the end of the current season, banking on his development and potential resale value.
They also recognise the reality of the market. A substantial offer that meets their valuation would be taken seriously, especially with European heavyweights beginning to circle.
International recognition has pushed his profile onto a different level. With that, the expectation inside the market is simple: the real offers are likely to arrive in January.
