Tottenham Secures Omar Marmoush on Loan from Manchester City
Tottenham have struck another deal with Manchester City, this time for forward Omar Marmoush, as the club’s frantic summer rebuild gathers even more pace.
After a £230million outlay already and an £85million agreement in place for winger Savinho, Spurs have now moved to secure Marmoush on an initial loan, with a buy clause set at £50million that becomes mandatory if certain conditions are met over the season.
Spurs react after Brentford setback
The urgency has been obvious. On Saturday, Tottenham were comfortably beaten 3-0 by Brentford, mustering just four shots on target. For a club that has committed heavily to reshaping its squad, that attacking display underlined how much work still needs to be done in the final third.
The response has been swift. Talks over Savinho were already advanced, but in recent days negotiations also ramped up for his City team-mate Marmoush. According to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs now have a verbal agreement with City and the player has already given the move the green light.
Marmoush is scheduled to travel to north London on Monday to undergo his medical. Once that is completed, the deal can be formalised and Tottenham will add another attacker to a frontline that looked short of cutting edge at the weekend.
Loan now, big money later
The structure of the Marmoush deal is crucial for Tottenham. The agreement is built around a season-long loan, with a £50million obligation to buy triggered if specific conditions are met during the campaign.
That mechanism gives Spurs an immediate boost in attack without the full fee hitting their books this summer, a significant factor after an already heavy window of spending and with financial regulations in mind.
It also represents value from Tottenham’s perspective. They are set to pay less for Marmoush than City did when they signed him from the Bundesliga around 18 months ago.
Savinho already secured
The Marmoush move follows swiftly on from the Savinho agreement. As reported by David Ornstein, Tottenham have reached a deal to sign the Brazilian winger from City in a transfer that could rise to £85million.
Spurs are due to pay £75million up front, with a further £10million in add-ons, £5million of which are described as highly achievable. It had been anticipated that securing both Savinho and Marmoush might push the combined cost towards £150million.
The reality looks different. With Marmoush’s fee set at £50million if the purchase clause is activated, the pair will come in at a combined £135million rather than the mooted £150million.
A huge summer, with room to manoeuvre
Add that £135million to the £230million already spent and Tottenham’s summer outlay climbs to £365million. Yet the timing of the Marmoush payments gives the club some breathing space.
Because the Egyptian arrives on loan first, Spurs delay the impact of the full transfer fee, a key detail as they try to stay on the right side of financial rules after such a lavish rebuild.
Two attackers from Manchester City, one already tied down and the other on the brink. A bruising 3-0 defeat still fresh in the memory. Now the question is simple: will this aggressive push in the market finally give Tottenham the firepower to match their ambition?
