Tottenham Pursues Chelsea Defender Tosin Adarabioyo Amid Transfer Window Urgency
Tottenham are pushing ahead with plans to sign Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo as the final days of the transfer window threaten to reshape their back line.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs are actively working on a deal for Tosin, with the move described as a “concrete possibility”. The structure of the transfer is still unclear, with both a loan and a permanent switch on the table.
Spurs’ defence in flux
Tottenham have already spent heavily this summer, and any late arrivals are now closely tied to outgoings. One of those could be Kevin Danso.
The defender is attracting interest from Premier League side Sunderland as the window ticks towards its close, and Spurs are increasingly open to letting him go.
Head coach Roberto De Zerbi has already laid bare the scale of the unrest in his squad, confirming that three players have asked to leave.
“He said too many times [Richarlison] he wants to leave. Danso came to me two days ago, and he said he wants to leave, and Pape Sarr, the same, but he suffer[ed] a small injury, but he is almost ready to train.”
That admission underlines why Tottenham are now moving with urgency in the centre-back market. If Danso gets his wish, they need a replacement ready to walk through the door.
Chelsea talks open the door
Romano reports that Chelsea are working on a deal involving Tosin, which in turn could free up Danso to depart. For Spurs, the Chelsea defender has emerged as a realistic target rather than a speculative name.
One major question hangs over the talks: will Chelsea actually sell to a direct London rival? The answer is not yet clear, but Tottenham’s willingness to advance discussions suggests they have at least some encouragement from Stamford Bridge.
Time, though, is the enemy. Spurs must line up Tosin while simultaneously negotiating Danso’s exit, with the window closing fast. Any delay on one side risks collapsing the other.
Does Tosin fit?
On the pitch, the move is not straightforward. Tosin has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter at Chelsea, and his next club is likely to be one that offers him consistent minutes.
Breaking into Tottenham’s defence will be a serious challenge. Micky van de Ven, Marcos Senesi and Jan-Paul van Hecke are already established as the three main options at centre-back, forming the core of De Zerbi’s back line.
Tosin would add depth and competition, but questions remain over whether he is the right profile. A more versatile defender, capable of covering multiple positions, might suit Spurs’ needs better as they juggle domestic and European demands.
What is clear is the direction of travel. After bringing in Iliman Ndiaye from Everton, all signs point to Tottenham’s final act of this window being at the back. Whether that closing statement is Tosin Adarabioyo could define how secure De Zerbi’s defence looks for the rest of the season.
